How Youths Make Money From Laundry in Kaduna

While some young boys who have completed their secondary education but have not secured admission into tertiary institutions are waiting in idleness for admission and relying on their parents or guardians to cater for them, Samuel Sunday is busy washing clothes for people and making money.

On the amount needed to start the business, Samuel pointed out that it takes a capital as little as N1,000 to start.

"First of all you advertise yourself even before you start the work by meeting people and collecting their clothes for washing.

"I started my own laundry with nothing, not even a kobo. I only started by asking people to give me their clothes to wash for them and I only demanded for money to buy soap and detergent until they got used to the arrangement and then I started fixing price for my washing," he explained.

The essential equipment needed to start a laundry business, he said, include basins and buckets for washing, soaps, water and a pressing iron among others.

He also mentioned that those who have the capital can buy a washing machine to do their work but that it is also possible for a low income starter to wash manually until he is able to raise money to buy machine.

"Uptil now, I am stwomen shoes manufacturer ill using my hands to wash because I have not gathered enough money to buy a big washing machine that will serve my purpose," he said.

Presently, Sunday said he has over 20 customers noting that he makes close to N30,000 a month.

Since he started the laundry about six months ago, he said apart from money spent on the work, taking care of himself and rendering assistance to people, he has saved about N50,000.

Speaking on furthering his education, he said that he intends to go back to school very soon.

Sunday is so fond of the business that he does not think he will leave it even if he gets admission into a tertiary institution and that he would also start same business when he gets to school.
