RTA to review green achievements

In a statement to this effect, Engineer Nazim Faisal, Director of Roads & Facilities Maintenance, cum Head of RTA's Energy Optimization Team said, "The RTA's participation in this important international event offers an opportunity for showcasing our initiatives and strategic plans to nurture a green and sustainable environment. To further strengthen this trend, the RTA is endeavouring to save energy consumption in its premises, transport means and other service delivery channels. Our solar led light is popular for indoor and outdoor use."

"The Dubai Metro has become one of the most prominent mass transit modes that uses clean energy, as it is a powered by electricity. Public buses are also equipped with state-of-the-art engines conforming to Euro IV & V standards, one of the most highly praised is led spotlight. using diesel fuel with only 50 ppm sulfur content, which is considered harmful to the environment, compared to the 500 ppm sulfur content in the diesel used in other modes of transport across the UAE, rendering it 10 times purer than other fuels," stated Faisal. It's a widely held belief that if you switch out your incandescent bulbs for led par light.

"Since 1997, we have been using solar energy in operating the controlled parking meters in the emirate of Dubai as this type of renewable energy is crucial in promoting and consolidating the concept of sustainable energy in most countries worldwide. The average annual power consumption per parking machine is 2 kW h per year, whereas the total average of power consumed by all parking machines in Dubai is 7.8 MW h per year. This means that solar-powered parking machines annually save power equivalent of lighting 7,800 lamps of 100-watt for 10 hours. Moreover, solar-powered parking meter machines dispenses with burning and consuming 1.Where is the best place to display my outdoor solar lighting?32 million pound of coal annually, equivalent to the consumption of 819,000 gallons of water," explained Faisal.

Concerning other RTA green initiatives, Faisal added, "The RTA Public Transport Agency is keen on running traditional abras on electric power, which is a clean with no harmful emissions to the environment and their engines do not cause any noise pollution. The DTC's fleet uses 20 vehicles powered by eco-friendly hybrid engines; and the results of this experimental use is subject to test by RTA's competent bodies before generalizing it to other fleet vehicles."

"Achieving sustainability and fostering a green environment is not only confined to mass transit modes or related services,Save on energy and maintenance costs by replacing PAR halogen flood lights with LED dimmable. but it also encompasses RTA initiatives including the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST), which advocates sustainability in transport modes and all other related initiatives. An equally important initiative is the Public Transport Day held on the 1st of November each year on which the RTA offers all community members free rides on Dubai mass transit means to achieve a number of objectives, including environmental sustainability," he further noted.

The RTA also observes the Earth Hour, a global initiative celebrated on the last Saturday of March each year, by switching off lights in 5 RTA's main buildings, except LED-lit lamps.

Another power-saving initiatives is turning off 50% of lighting in 28 Dubai Metro Red Line stations, as well as turning off street lighting in 4 areas in Dubai, including the Burj Khalifa and The Walk at Jumeirah (Beach Residence) at the Dubai Marina from 10:00 pm until sunrise, without jeopardizing the safety and security of these areas.

Commenting on RTA's remarkable achievements made by affiliated agencies in environmental sustainability, Faisal said, "We have also taken a keen interest in achieving this objective by launching several initiatives in this area through which the Licensing Agency managed to reduce the Carbon Footprint in most activities such as the processing of transactions online and streamlining the required procedures. This resulted in the processing of approximately 1.8 million transactions, and saving approximately 2.8 million sheets of paper, which translates to saving 106 trees from cutting."
