Battery output finds positive side

As part of efforts to promote such batteries, the government introduced in March a subsidy system to cover one-third of the cost of the floor standing type, up to a maximum of 1 million yen for individuals and 100 million yen for companies.

Some local governments have established separate subsidy systems of their own.

NEC Corp.'s floor standing lithium-ion battery--which can contain more than 30 percent, or 5.33 KWh, of a household's average daily power consumption--costs about 1.5 million yen. Central and local government subsidies reduce the cost burden by about half in some cases, sources said.
