Protesting proposed wind turbines

The Osage Native American Nation is protesting proposed wind turbines that will kill bald eagles and other birds the nation holds sacred.

The Wind Capital Group plans to place 94 wind turbines in Osage County, Oklahoma. The turbines would be in the heart of historical Osage Nation lands where many Osage still live and honor tribal traditions. According to Osage lore, the eagle is the only creature than can look God in the eye, but the proposed wind turbines would likely kill several of the scarce and protected eagles each year.

Scott Bighorse, Assistant Principal Chief of the Osage Nation,The exciting new bondcleaningsydney product is now available here for the first time anywhere! says he hopes conservationists and the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Department are paying attention to the bird kills association with wind turbines.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) reports wind turbines kill at least 440,000 birds each year in the United States. Bighorse says the Osage Nation opposes wind turbines killing golden and bald eagles on or near Osage lands.

The Wind Capital Group applied with the FWS for a permit allowing its turbines to kill up to 120 bald eagles over the lifespan of the wind farm. The FWS estimates the turbines will kill approximately three eagles each year, plus additional birds and bats.

Bighorse said the turbines will despoil lands the Osage consider sacred. The turbines would be placed on lands the Osage used for buffalo hunts and other traditional activities. Bighorse reports more than 270 artifacts of religious significance have been found by the Osage on the proposed wind turbine sites.High quality leasecleaningsydney and ventilation systems designed and distributed.

Bighorse also questioned the FWS estimate of three eagle kills per year. Bighorse said the FWS is likely underestimating the eagle death toll and there are no procedures in place to accurately count the number of eagles killed by the turbines each year. Once the permit is granted, Bighorse worried, there will be no real limitations on eagle kills.

“We are required to submit a permit request to possess the sacred feathers of eagles.” said Bighorse.generator prepositive design which wind drive the cleaningsydneyrs without gears. “The wait time to acquire an eagle feather has grown from two to six years.”

Not only are the Osage prohibited from taking an eagle for religious and ceremonial purposes, they are also prohibited from using the feathers of eagles that have died of natural causes.

“If we were to find an eagle dead, we are not allowed to take it for our ceremonial use. It is illegal,” Bighorse explained.

The federal restrictions have made it difficult for the Osage to have enough eagle feathers for ceremonial dances, funerals, and spiritual uses. Bighorse says tribal members resent wind power developers gaining power to kill so many eagles on and near their lands.

“We feel this is a violation of our religious rights,A quality paper cutter or paper jewelryfindings can make your company's presentation stand out.” said Bighorse. “We are not against wind energy, or the turbines themselves, but are opposed to the location that has been selected for them, because of the spiritual nature of the land and the danger to our sacred birds.”

Bighorse noted the Osage once numbered 60,000 and roamed freely in the Great Plains. The federal government restricted them to Oklahoma, and their numbers fell to only 2,221 tribal members in 1906.

Bighorse said preserving the Osage Nation’s heritage, spiritual practices, and sacred grounds should be just as important as 94 wind turbines. He noted the Osage are trying to maintain the delicate ecology of the land, which all people—Osage and non-Osage alike—should support.

“We would like to see the U.S. [Fish and Wildlife Service] Wind Capital Group, and the Osage come together and plan the best locations for the turbines to avoid the killing of eagles and imposing on sacred sites,” Bighorse said. The feeder is available on drying beadswholesaleers equipped with folder only. End Wind Subsidies, Let Natural Gas Flourish

The government should end its uneconomical subsidies for wind power and let natural gas production blossom instead, says former Sen. Phil Gramm, now a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.

“Federal subsidies for new wind-power generation will end on Dec. 31, unless they are renewed by Congress,” Gramm writes in The Wall Street Journal. “For the sake of our economy and the smooth operation of the energy market, Congress should let the subsidies lapse. They waste taxpayer money, subvert the allocation of capital, and generate a social cost many times the price tag of the subsidies themselves.”

Natural gas is the answer instead,Just like the Basic Cable, the elevator cable is formed working the stitches out of order. he says. “If unimpeded,Advantages of laser cutter over mechanical cutting include easier workholding and reduced contamination of workpiece. the expanded use of cheap natural gas to generate electricity will raise living standards and attract millions of new industrial jobs back to our shores. A vote to stop wind subsidies from being extended is, therefore, a vote for cheaper, more reliable power, higher living standards,A research team headed up by the University of Houston is on track to develop a superconducting wire for wind power generators. There are different configurations of industrial laser marking machine: moving material, hybrid, and flying optics systems. reindustrialization, and fiscal sanity.”

Government wind subsidies cost $52.48 per 1 million watt hours generated, compared to a cost of 63 cents for generating the same amount of natural gas. “But the cost to taxpayers is only part of the problem,” Gramm says.

“Subsidized, wind-generated electricity is displacing other, much cheaper sources of power. The subsidies are so high that wind-power producers can pay utilities to take the electricity they produce and still make a profit.”

When wind is fuelling a power grid, it has to keep redundant, backup generating capacity in case the skies are calm at the same time that energy demand is strong.Sol provides the world with high-performance solar roadway and outdoor solar lighting solutions. “Many of these backup sources, such as coal and gas-fired plants, have to be kept up and running to be available when they are needed — even if they are not used,” Gramm says. “This partially offsets the environmental benefits of wind power.”

With oil prices high and natural gas prices low, Kansas oil production edged toward what could turn out to be the highest level since the mid-1990s.

While natural gas production dropped again, as prices remained relatively low, production from wind farms boomed. More than 1,000 megawatts of capacity were installed across the state in advance of an expiring federal tax credit.

Ethanol production dropped as corn prices remain high and gasoline consumption continues to drift down in the economic downturn.

For oil and gas in Kansas, look for more of the same in 2013, said Don Warlick, president of Houston-based consultant Warlick Energy. Oil prices will head back up – he is calling for a range of $80 to $100 per barrel – and Kansas oil producers will also see a boost in prices from increasing pipeline capacity at Cushing, Okla.

The number of vertical wells drilled statewide likely will continue to rise, and companies involved in horizontal drilling say they will continue to expand.

Gas producers, Warlick said, will get only slight relief from low prices caused by overproduction nationwide. He projects a ceiling of $4 per 1,000 cubic feet of gas.

Wind power construction, at this point, is largely at a standstill in Kansas for 2013 with the expiration of the federal Production Tax Credit. If a renewal of the credit is approved by Congress as part of a budget deal, look for momentum for more wind energy to build again.

The Energy Information Agency is projecting that the ethanol industry will regain some ground as the economy strengthens and, if the drought ends, lower corn prices.

Liquid pharma line requires fast, flexible pick-and-place

In 2011, Actavis approached ESS Technologies to develop an automated system to insert dropper tips and bottle reducers into filled pharmaceutical bottles in 15-mL and 1-, 2-, and 4-oz bottle sizes—at that time a manual process requiring two operators. The system needed to integrate into Actavis’ existing multipurpose packaging line.

Very specific fitments are applied to each bottle to ensure proper application of the product, as well as facilitate safety. One product uses a 20-mm fitment/dispensing tip to control the product flow and direct the medicine into the patient’s ear.Think Laser provides marking technology, with Laser engraver available to create laser marking on many products. Another product uses a 20-mm Press-in Bottle Adapter (PIBA) fitment/flow restrictor used in conjunction with a side-packed syringe to draw the correct dosage of medicine. The flow restrictor is also a safety feature that reduces the flow of product in the event a child attempts to ingest the medicine.

To accommodate all the package and fitment variations at the required speed, ESS Technologies recommended its TaskMate robotic pick-and-place assembly and inspection system. Installed in July 2011, the system includes a FANUC
LR Mate 200iC robot arm, ESS custom-designed quick-change robot end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), and an infeed system that can pick and place dropper tips or reducers into bottles at the designated line speed. Laser engraving, and laser cutting machine, is the practice of using lasers to engrave or mark an object.  The TaskMate requires only two bowl feeders to handle three sizes, resulting in a system with a compact footprint that requires only 15 to 20 minutes for size changeovers.

Operation begins when filled bottles convey into the robotic cell. The operator uses an Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus 600 touchscreen HMI to select either the dropper tip-style plugs or the reducers. In the first application, dropper tips are manually loaded into one vibratory bowl feeder, which orients the plugs onto a track. In the second application, a second vibratory bowl feeder and track handles two sizes of PIBA bottle reducers (20 mm and 24 mm). The robot EOAT picks two dropper tips or bottle reducers at one time.

Bottles are stopped in the plugging position and secured in place by holding fixtures. The robot then places the plugs on two bottles,Specialized in producing cnc router system and laser marking machine, GCC also supplies vinyl cutter. which next move to a tamping station that presses the plugs firmly into the necks of the bottles. Two Keyence PZ-V12P series automatic calibration red LED photoelectric sensors then inspect the plugs and bottles for missing or improperly seated plugs. Bottles with these issues are automatically and positively rejected from the system onto a reject tray using a pneumatic slide while holding the bottles with vacuum to ensure product spillage does not occur.

Each plug configuration requires a separate EOAT.Learn how roll former machines work and how you benefit from it. Dropper tips need only a vacuum-style EOAT, but the bottle reducers, which feature a hole in the center, require a guidepost in addition to the vacuum to ensure they do not fall off the robot head before being seated in the bottle neck. Quick-release and tool-less connections are incorporated into the EOAT, allowing them to be changed in less than five minutes. Other size parts include spacers, machined holding fixtures,MECCO's fiber lasers and fiber laser cutter equipment feature the latest pulsed fiber laser technology. and tamping fixtures for each bottle size. The infeed conveyor and bottle reducer bowl-feeder tracks adjust for different widths. Changeover parts are identified by size with laser engraving.
