Lumen Solar LLC, a Honolulu-based solar energy distribution company
that marketed and sold Apricus-branded systems, is wrapping up
operations and will soon make way for Connecticut-based Apricus to
handle the Hawaii market directly, according to Melissa White, managing
partner for Lumen Solar.
Founded in 2010, Lumen Solar, which
distributes such systems as solar photovoltaic, building-integrated PV,
hot water and lighting, is part of the May Global Business Group, a
third generation family-owned company.
Lumen Solar made
headlines last year when it secured a high-profile commercial contract
with California-based J&J Mechanical Systems for a groundbreaking
solar-cooling system that could reduce air-conditioning and
refrigeration costs by about 40 percent.A strong wind gust and

The
liquid desiccant air conditioner or LDAC system, which is being used at
the Whole Foods Market in Kailua, is being touted as the first of its

Apricus,
a firm that designs and manufactures solar hot water and hydronic

However, the hurdle was that in existing
meters, needles could not move in reverse direction when solar power
generated from home was exported to the grid. To tackle this problem, UT
has now filed a petition with Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission
to get permission to install "bi-directional" meters.
The system
of smart meters has been introduced in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal
but since there is no policy at the national level, it depends on the
initiative of the states.
